1011/A CREATING A CARING CLASSROOM (10am-12pm)
This workshop is aimed at decreasing the chances of children becoming bullies in their later years by helping them develop compassion and empathy as preschoolers. It will offer games and activities to help children feel included and learn to respect others. Presenter: Sharon Singleton

1018/A TODDLER TIME (10am-12pm)
This workshop will cover the major developmental milestones of the preschooler and offer developmentally appropriate games and activities. Presenter: Sharon Singleton

1025/A A CENTER IN A BOX:A PRACTICAL SOLTUION TO USING CENTER IN SMALL SPACES (10am-12pm)
Are you limited in how you use your centers in your classroom or home because of lack of space, the cost of development or the inconvenience of having them all out all the time? Come join us as we explore how centers can be developed that are low cost and have the benefit of being easily stored when not in use or pulled out when the children want to play. These centers are easily expanded to meet a variety of age groups and you will be amazed what you can collect when you have a plan. Presenter: Dr. Maggie McGuire
The objectives of this workshop are:
*Provide a variety of strategies for developing centers that can be easily stored when not in use;
*develop a list of solutions to developing centers that are both innovative and inexpensive;
*create centers that can be used by a variety of ages.

1115/A EFFECTIVE PARENT COMMUNICATION (10am-12pm)
Remember playing “telephone” and how funny it was at the end because the original message got so turned around and garbled? How funny is that in real life? How costly can a garbled message be to families or your school? In this workshop, we will examine various forms of communication and how to convey what is truly meant. We will examine how to effectively share information with parents that may not be what they want to hear and consider other strategies that make parents and families feel more welcome.
Presenter: Dr. Maggie McGuire
The objectives of this workshop are:
*The difference between verbal and non-verbal communication;
*the types of communication that welcome parents
*what makes parents angry and strategies to work with them;
*what are the components of an effective parent conference.

1115/B SCIENCE FOR PRESCHOOLERS (1PM-3PM)
Preschoolers are filled with wonder and curiosity about the world around them. This workshop will offer sctivities to help them understand basic science concepts in fun and engaging ways. Presenter: Sharon Singleton

1206/A YOU DON’T NEED A LAP TO TELL A STORY (10am-12pm)
This workshop will address strategies that parents and teachers can easily implement with children so that they are actively engaged with literature. While reading a book to children is a great activity, there are so many other ways to share literature. Dr. Maggie McGuire
The objectives of this workshop are:
*How to choose a variety of genres to share with young children, such as poetry, finger plays, books, oral tales and song;
*a variety of approaches to share these genres with children in ways other than having them be read to;
*how to develop simple props and gather accessories to bring literacy to life;
*how to choose literature that is sequential and simple to make walking books for children to use.
